Phipps’ Red, Ripe and Roasted Event to Celebrate Quintessential Summer Crops
12th annual tomato and garlic festival to benefit Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
., Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens will celebrate summer’s bounty at its 12th annual Red, Ripe and Roasted tomato and garlic festival. Held on the front lawn and in the Outdoor Garden, guests can enjoy cooking demos, a tomato contest, kids’ activities and local vendors selling fresh produce— all to benefit Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Red, Ripe and Roasted is a foodie’s dream come true with a focus on fresh, local produce. Café Phipps will prepare and share delicious dishes to sample; there will be cooking demonstrations and a Phipps-grown garlic roast; and local vendors selling organic and Certified Naturally Grown produce will give guests an opportunity to buy plenty of tomatoes and garlic to experiment with at home. Red, Ripe and Roasted is free to attend. By donating a bag of fresh produce for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, festival-goers will be admitted for free to the Summer Flower Show: PlayGardens and enchanting Butterfly Forest, where they can experience the whimsical delights of our interactive garden exhibit and meet beautiful winged friends. Free admission is only applicable between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. In 2015, 1,800 pounds of food were collected for those in need.
