Family Scuba Class

Anyone 10 or older who has been fascinated by the idea of swimming and breathing underwater will have a chance to taste the scuba experience on June 13 in the Cranberry Waterpark pool. During the 90-minute Family Scuba class, participants will practice some basic skills before diving and swimming around the pool with full scuba equipment under close supervision of a certified scuba instructor. Those 12 and older in good health and with strong swimming skills can register for twice-weekly Open Water Scuba starting July 6, which includes six 3-hour sessions in the Waterpark pool. To qualify for PADI Scuba Diver certification, a candidate is required to complete four open water dives after their pool-based instruction has been satisfactorily concluded. Open water dives, associated equipment rentals and certificate fees are available through many independent scuba shops in the area. Their rates vary and are not included in the program fee. The Family Scuba introductory class carries an individual program fee of $40, or $35 for Waterpark members. Registration for Open Water Scuba is $215 and anyone under 18 must have both medical and liability waiver forms signed by a parent. Online registration is available at either by phone at 724-779-4FUN (4386), or in person at the Parks & Recreation Customer Service Desk in the Cranberry Township Municipal Center. Fees are payable at the time of registration.
