Cranberry Township to offer Rain Barrel instruction

Two single-session classes about installing and operating household rain barrels will be held this spring, one on Tuesday, May 3 and another on Monday, May 9, beginning at 6:30 PM in Council Chambers of the Cranberry Township Municipal Center. Everyone taking the class will be given a rain barrel to install at their home – a $150 value.

As in prior years, the class will be presented by students enrolled in Haine Middle School’s program “The Rain Makers.” For this class, Cranberry and the school have partnered with Home Depot to secure the barrels at well below market price.

Rain barrels, which attach to a home’s downspout, provide a straightforward method for capturing as much as 55 gallons of rainwater runoff for later use in lawn and garden irrigation.

Registration for the class is available at the Township’s Customer Service desk. Space is limited. Program fee for the session – including the rain barrel itself – is $30.
