Description:

The North Allegheny School District (NASD) announces that there will be NO CLASSES for students on Tuesday, April 26, 2016. This date was noted in the District’s 2015-2016 Activities Calendar as a ‘Contingency Winter Weather Give-Back Day.’

A number of our school buildings are currently used as polling places. Due to North Allegheny’s continued focus on safety and security, it is preferred that students are not in the buildings when they are being used by the community as polling places. For this reason, as a pilot effort, the District enacted a plan to consider the Primary Election Day as a ‘Contingency Winter Weather Give-Back Day.’ Having this contingency plan allows the District the flexibility to cancel classes on April 26 if the District has not had to use the full allotment of school cancellations due to inclement winter weather conditions.

The Activities Calendar noted that a final determination would be made after Spring Break. However, based on the fact that the District has had only one school cancellation day this school year and the forecast for upcoming weeks does not indicate any concern for severe weather conditions, a decision is being made in advance to afford all families as much notice as possible.
