Master gardening with Master Gardeners
Horticulture in Cranberry will be taking a big step forward in 2016. For the first time this year, the Penn State certified Master Gardeners of Butler County will partner with the Township’s Parks & Recreation department in offering six different classes for the home gardener. Each 90-minute Thursday evening session will focus on a different aspect of successful gardening. Classes meet in the Township’s Municipal Center beginning at 6:30.
On March 24, the class will focus on the process of preparing a garden for the growing season. Considerations include garden siting, soil, fertilizers, and planting times. On March 31, the class will center on techniques of home composting. The April 7 class will discuss different options for controlling household and garden pests. Attracting butterflies will be the topic of the April 14 session. Weed control will be explored on April 21, and vegetable container gardening will be the focus of the final session on April 28.
Participants 18 and older can register for all six together or for only those sessions they choose. For Cranberry residents, the full series program fee is $100, $125 for non-residents. Individual class registration fees are $20 for residents, $25 for non-residents. Registration is available in person at the Parks & Recreation Information Desk, by phone at 724-779-4FUN (4386), or online at www.cranberry4FUN.com/Register. Fees are payable at the time of registration.
