Cranberry Program Teaches Art as Meditation

They may look like doodles, but Zentangle® artworks are actually abstract patterned drawings created through a disciplined, trademarked method which its founders claim practically anyone can do. In addition to creating a unique artwork, the method provides a form of artistic meditation that increases the individual’s focus and creativity, producing artistic satisfaction as well as a heightened sense of personal well-being. On two successive Tuesdays, March 8 and March 15, a certified teacher of the Zentangle Method will offer instruction in its technique to adults 18 and older during two-hour sessions starting at 6:30 in the Cranberry Township Municipal Center. No technology, special materials, or educational background are necessary to learn the method, which provides an engaging way to relax and shift perspective. Registration is separate for the March 8 introductory class and the more advanced March 15 class. The introductory session is not required to register in the advanced class, but it is highly recommended. All supplies needed are provided to participants in the introductory class. The program fee for each class is $30 for Cranberry residents, $35 for non-residents. Registration is available in person at the Parks & Recreation Information Desk, by phone at 724-779-4FUN (4386), or online at Fees are payable at the time of registration.
