Turzai to Host Free Prescription Drug Take Back and Shredding Event
House Speaker Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) would like to remind his constituents that he will be hosting a Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 24. The event is part of a national effort to promote the proper collection and disposal of prescription medications.
“I am proud to join the Northern Regional Police Department, Duquesne Light Company and People’s Natural Gas in promoting this important event,” said Turzai. “This is something everyone in our area should be aware of to protect public safety.”
Medications that will be accepted for the event include prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, pet medications, patches, vitamins and supplements, and inhalers. Those items not approved for disposal include IV bags, blood or infectious waste, nebulizers, oxygen tanks and mercury thermometers.
In addition to the drug disposal service, the event will serve as a location to dispose of confidential documents properly. Residents can drop off three to five boxes per household of unwanted documents that contain personal information. The materials to be shredded should not include newspapers, magazines or books. Paper clips and staples need not be removed before shredding. This event is for personal shredding only.
