New High School Digital Immersion Theater Invites Community for Grand Opening Shows in August and Double Features in September
North Hills High School’s new digital immersion theater will welcome community members for grand opening shows and a ribbon cutting ceremony on August 28. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. followed by a showing of “Two Small Pieces of Glass.” Encore presentations will run at 7:15 and 8 p.m., and the Astronomy Club will exhibit moon rock samples and provide hands-on activities about planets for all attendees. No reservations are required for the grand opening shows. Over the summer, the high school’s planetarium was converted to a digital immersion theater with a new digital projector and LED lighting. The theater’s standard double feature of two back-to-back shows will resume on Sept. 9, 11 and 15. “Flight Adventure” starts at 6:30 p.m. and is targeted for younger children. “Two Small Pieces of Glass” will follow at 7:15 p.m. and is appropriate for older children through adults. “Flight Adventures,” allows attendees to discover the science of flight through birds, kites, planes and more during the 30-minute multimedia show from the Children's Museum of Indianapolis. The show introduces famous inventors and aviators of the past, pioneers who first revealed the four forces of flight and engineers who are continuing to discover new and safer ways to travel. “Two Small Pieces of Glass” follows two teenage students as they attend a star party and learn how the telescope has helped us understand our place in space and how telescopes continue to expand our understanding of the universe. The show details the history of the telescope, Galilean moons, Saturn's rings, the spiral structure of galaxies and discoveries by famous astronomers and scientists. All shows are free and open to the public, but all digital immersion theater shows require reservations except for the grand opening shows. Reservations can be made by calling 412-318-1000 ext. 3166 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. If no reservations have been made by the end of the last school day prior to the show, the presentation will be canceled. Group reservations for community organizations are accepted, and special events for community members and groups can be scheduled. The North Hills High School digital immersion theater is located on the third floor of the high school at 53 Rochester Road in Ross Township.
