Schenley Shuffle now has 1-mile fun walk and 5k to benefit seniors in need
The fourth annual Schenley Shuffle 5k Run/Walk, presented by Open Your Heart to a Senior and the University of Pittsburgh Student Occupational Therapy Association, will begin at 8:00 am, Saturday, September 26 at Bartlett Shelter, Schenley Park, Oakland. New this year is a one-mile fun walk. Registration is $25 at SchenleyShuffle.com. Well-behaved pets are welcome. Proceeds support the Heart of Gold Fund, which provides household goods to seniors in need in Allegheny County. In the past year, the Heart of Gold Fund supplied microwaves, space heaters and shoes to local senior citizens who were doing without. In addition to the run and walk, the day’s festivities will include warm-up stretches led by a local yoga instructor, and post-race hula hooping. A $50 gift card will be given to each of the fastest male and fastest female runners. All participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt. Check-in the day of the event begins at 8am. The 5k run begins at 9am and the 1-mile walk begins at 9:10am.
