North Hills Monthly

For the third year, Fox Chapel Area High School is offering the Freshmen Summer Seminar. Each 2015 summer seminar session runs for four-days and is taught by Fox Chapel Area High School staff members. The sessions focus on executive functioning skills and are designed to help incoming freshmen become better students. The main components of the program are materials management, organization, time management, study strategies, test-taking skills, and goal setting. According to the program director, Fox Chapel Area High School social studies teacher Lesley Cowles, the program is very beneficial to students who choose to participate. “We believe that this program is very unique and we have found that it really helps prepare students for the high school academic experience. High school can be a significant transition for students and we provide this program to give them an in-depth introduction to what they will experience in high school.” Four summer seminar sessions will be offered (July 13-16, July 20-23, July 27-30, and August 3-6 from 9 a.m.-12 noon), but they will all be held at Dorseyville Middle School due to construction at Fox Chapel Area High School. The cost is $75 per student and students who are eligible for free and reduced-price lunch get a discounted rate. The seminar is open to all students who will be freshmen at Fox Chapel Area High School during the 2015-2016 school year. For more information on the sessions, call Fox Chapel Area High School at 412/967-2430.
