Phipps’ Red, Ripe and Roasted Event to Celebrate Quintessential Summer Crops
11th annual tomato and garlic festival to benefit Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens will celebrate summer’s bounty at its 11th annual Red, Ripe and Roasted tomato and garlic festival. Held on the front lawn and in the Outdoor Garden, the event features cooking demos, a tomato contest, a farmers’ market and kids’ activities — all to benefit Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
Red, Ripe and Roasted is a foodie’s dream-come-true with a focus on fresh, local produce. Café Phipps will prepare and share delicious dishes to sample; there will be cooking demonstrations and a Phipps-grown garlic roast; and a farmers’ market featuring organic and Certified Naturally Grown produce will give guests an opportunity to buy plenty of tomatoes and garlic to experiment with at home.
Red, Ripe and Roasted is free to attend. By donating a bag of fresh produce for the Food Bank, festival-goers can also receive free admission to Summer Flower Show, which features weird and wonderful plants, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. only. In 2014, 2,655 pounds of food were collected for those in need.
