Treat Mom To A Mother’s Day Afternoon Concert The Whole Family Will Enjoy!
Moms come in all shapes and sizes, and their musical tastes are just as varied as they are. This Mother’s Day, the Pittsburgh Mandolin Orchestra is presenting a concert with something for everyone. Under the direction of Charley Rappaport, the orchestra will play Vivaldi, popular show tunes, even klezmer (traditional Eastern European Jewish dance music), and much more. Enjoy a spotlight on the orchestra’s mandolin-playing duo—remarkable ninth-grader Hannah Ishizaki and local school teacher Jason Mohr. Vocals by Gary Burdick. And an appearance by guest artists KlezLectic, known for their lively brew of eclectic and multicultural genres, especially Klezmer. With more than 35 members, the Pittsburgh Mandolin Orchestra is one of the largest mandolin orchestras in the United States. Lauded by the Pennsylvania Council for the Arts as a master folk musician, Rappaport has been conductor of the orchestra, and a wildly popular performer in front of it, for nine years.
