The Bowling Green State University Collegiate Chorale from Bowling Green, Ohio, will present a concert at Northmont United Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh at 7:30 P.M. on Monday, May 11. This 24-voice touring mixed choir is conducted by Timothy Cloeter. Admission is free (a free will offering will be collected). The varied concert program of sacred and secular repertoire spans from classical music to spirituals, from the Renaissance to the present, and from French chansons to vocal jazz. Concert repertoire will include music by Schütz, Monteverdi, Brahms, Stanford, Ravel, Duruflé, Hindemith, Barber, Whitacre, Dickau, Daley, and Hogan. Program highlights will include Ravel’s Trois chansons, Barber’s Reincarnations, Whitacre’s “Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine,” a newly commissioned composition by David Dickau, and “Chili Con Carne” by the Real Group. The Collegiate Chorale is the most select choir in a five-choir program within a College of Music comprising over 500 music majors. Consisting principally of juniors, seniors, and graduate students majoring in music, the Chorale engages audiences with authentic and conscientious performances of sophisticated and exceptional music, seeking to connect to listeners intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually.
