Volunteer drivers are needed to help seniors

Several partner agencies of United Way’s Open Your Heart to a Senior initiative need volunteer drivers for various programs around Allegheny County. Meals on Wheels, Free Rides for Seniors shuttle drivers and drivers who can transport seniors to medical appointments in the volunteer’s own vehicle are all needed. For more information on the program locations, or to register as a volunteer with OYHS, please call 412-307-0071 or email

Spring’s approach prompts seniors to seek yard help

The turn of the calendar and warming weather has prompted a number of seniors countywide to call Open Your Heart to a Senior seeking help with light yard work. Volunteers are needed in all neighborhoods of Allegheny County to help clear yard debris, plant flowers, and mow seniors’ lawns if possible come late spring or summer. This is a great volunteer opportunity for teens and groups. To register as a volunteer with OYHS, call 412-307-0071 or email
