Cranberry Offers Free Dek Hockey Clinics

With the new Pens-Highmark Dek Hockey rink at Graham Park now poised for its first full season of play, Cranberry’s Parks & Recreation Department will be holding three 120-minute clinics on Saturday mornings in March for children interested in learning the game. A clinic for children 4 to 6 years of age will take place starting at 10:00 on March 21. One for children 7 through 9 will be held at 10:00 on March 14. Another for those 10 through 12 will begin at 10:00 on March 28. There is no program fee, however advance registration is required. For those interested in continuing with the sport, a league is being organized with players grouped in two-year age increments. The Chipmunk Division, for players 4 through 6, will participate in an 8-game season, plus playoff games, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, starting at 5:30 PM April 6. Periods of play will be limited to 8 minutes, with the clock stopping every 2 minutes for line changes. Two Youth Divisions, one for children 7 through 9 and another for those 10 through 12 will meet for 10-game seasons, each game played in 10-minute periods. The Penguins, for those 7 through 9, will meet in 3-hour sessions on Tuesdays and Saturdays, beginning at 5:30 on April 7. The Beavers, for players 10 through 12, will meet for three-hour sessions as well, on Thursdays and Saturdays, also beginning at 5:30 PM. Two Teen Divisions are also being formed. The Cadets, for players 13 through 15, will meet Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays for two hours starting at 7:30 PM on April 6. The Freshmen Division, for players 16 through 18, will meet Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning at 7:30 on April 7. A ten-game adult league is also being formed for those 18 and older. Registration for both clinics and leagues is available in person at the Information Desk of the Parks & Recreation department, by phone at 724-776-4806 x1129, or online at the Township’s website, There is no fee for the clinics. Class fees for The Chipmunk division are $60 for Cranberry residents and $65 for non-residents. Fees for youth and teen division leagues are $75 and $80, respectively. All fees are payable at the time of registration. Parent coaches are needed and welcome for all league games.
