Saint Joseph High School announces spring production of Jesus Christ Superstar
- St. Joseph High School
- Weekly on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday
- Starting on: Mar 19, 2015
- Ending on: Mar 21, 2015
Saint Joseph High School (SJHS), under the direction of John J. Carosella, will present Jesus Christ Superstar at the Penn State New Kensington Forum Theater at the end of March.
Carosella will return to the director role during his final year of teaching at SJHS to celebrate his 25-year tenure. He last directed in 2010. Selecting Jesus Christ Superstar as a spring musical was not a difficult choice for Carosella. It is not only one his favorite musicals, but it is also the first SJHS musical he directed at ‘Old St. Joe’s’ on Garfield Street in Natrona. “I’ve had a fondness of the musical for many years,” says Carosella. “The story is great. Its powerful story can move an audience.”
Carosella believes in choosing shows that are meaningful to students and in giving each actor as much stage time as possible. “Extra-curricular activities are supposed to enhance their educational experience,” he says. “A show like Superstar offers students a plot with substance and allows them to be on stage almost the whole time. Actors can become between 15 and 20 characters throughout the musical. Busy actors are happy actors.”
After this year’s musical, Carosella will have staged Superstar four times at Saint Joseph High School. His 1996 production made school history with seven nominations and four wins at the Gene Kelly Awards. "What a wonderful way for Mr. Carosella to culminate his legacy at Saint Joseph High School! Our school community is delighted to have him direct this production of Superstar at this significant time in Saint Joseph High School's 100 year history. In so many ways, the selection of Jesus Christ Superstar provides an appropriate and meaningful transition into the school’s Centennial Celebration in September 2015.”
Performances of Jesus Christ Superstar will be on March 19, 20, and 21 at 7:30 p.m. and March 21 and 22 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be ordered by calling the box office at (724) 226-7897 or email at email@example.com.
