"Mary Poppins" the Musical
Shaler Area High School
The "practically perfect" Mary Poppins will create magic on the Shaler Area High School stage when the students present "Mary Poppins," the musical, for two weekends in March. The musical will delight audiences with characters that fly, toe-tapping dance numbers and props that come to life with a little magic from Mary Poppins. More than 80 students in the cast will sing, dance and act in this year's musical. An additional 31 student-musicians are in the orchestra pit and more than 50 students are on stage crew to help bring the musical together. For the first time, Shaler Area Middle School students have taken lead roles in the high school musical. This year's cast features two seventh-graders, Kelsey Marshall and Isabella James, who play Jane and Michael Banks, respectively. This year's cast also include senior Kelly Wall as Mary Poppins, senior Jordan Schreiber as Bert, junior Zak Marshall as Mr. Banks, and senior Catie Strout as Mrs. Banks. The directorial staff includes Kristin Demsey, director; Kristen Susany, assistant director; George Tepshich, orchestra director; Cassie Dudley, choreographer; Jeanne Marshall, scenic designer; Kari Simonetti, costume designer; Scott Krenn, stage manager; Mitch Stivason, technical director. The performances will be 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, March 6-7 and March 13-14, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, at the high school auditorium, located at 381 Wible Run Road. There also will be a free performance for senior citizens at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 5. Tickets are $10 for reserve seating or $7 for general admission. Residents with a Silver Titan Pass receive general admission tickets for free. Tickets will be sold in advance and at the door.
