Empty Bowls Event
Anniversary Commemorated with Exclusive Soup
Big Burrito Restaurant Group, is creating a special soup to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the fundraiser for Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and Just Harvest. Bill Fuller, executive chef for Big Burrito is generously creating the soup to support the two non-profit organizations in their efforts to eradicate hunger and food insecurity. Empty Bowls takes place from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Rodef Shalom Congregation (4905 Fifth Ave in Oakland). The event consists of a “meager meal” of soup and bread that is intended to remind participants that food security eludes many of their neighbors. The soup is made by chefs and donated by restaurants, and is served by local celebrities. Each guest receives a hand-crafted ceramic bowl to take home. Empty Bowls features a bake sale, entertainment, kid’s activities and a silent auction of fine art and celebrity-autographed bowls. “I am honored to have been able and to continue to be able to contribute my time and efforts to this event,” said Bill Fuller, executive chef of Big Burrito. “The soup that I plan on making involves an old story that teaches children about sharing, working together and utilizing everyone’s resources to come together as a group, which is idyllic to speak to the work that Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and Just Harvest do in the community to eradicate hunger.” During the event, the recipe for the 20th Anniversary soup will be made available to attendees through an exclusive recipe card and the soup will be served alongside the soups of over 30 other restaurants soups which include unusual selections such as Roasted Cauliflower Green Curry and the ever-favorite Chicken Noodle. Tickets to Empty Bowls are $22 and are on sale through the Food Bank and Just Harvest’s websites, www.pittsburghfoodbank.org and www.justharvest.org, or by calling Just Harvest at 412-431-8960. Tickets will also be available at the door. Proceeds benefit Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and Just Harvest.
