Adults and children alike that are itching to get outside during the chilly winter days will want to check out Winterfest on Saturday, January 17 at Moraine State Park. Winterfest will take place from noon until 4 p.m. at McDanel's Launch on the North Shore and is organized by the Moraine Preservation Fund, a non-profit group who works to support and improve the park.

The cold-weather festival highlights the wide range of activities enjoyed during the crisp air and snowfall including:

Chili Cook-off with prizes for the top three winners

Chainsaw Carving by Damian Skal

Ice Carving with Pittsburgh Marriot's Greg Barchetti, Chris DeFalco and Josh Brownell

Snowshoe Workshop hosted by Venture Outdoors

Live Music by Nameless in August and David Hamilton

Horse Drawn Winter Rides

Family Birding Hike hosted by Audubon Society of Western PA

Ice Fishing Demonstration by SRU Competitive Bass Anglers

Visit with "Iceburgh" the Pittsburgh Penguins Mascot

Cross-country Skiing hosted by Butler Outdoor Club

Other activities include crafts, food, family snow fun, a bonfire, nature activities and meeting Smokey the Bear.
