Mattress Factory Celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day with Birthday Bash
The Mattress Factory museum will host its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Birthday Bash on Monday, January 19 from 12-4pm. Admission for the celebration is “give what you can.” “The Martin Luther King Birthday Bash is a time for us to celebrate a visionary figure, open museum doors to our community and participate in collaborative actives where we can reflect on our dreams for our city and ourselves. Plus, there is music and cake!” Felice Cleveland, the museum’s Education Director said. This year’s event will feature a variety of activities for guests of all ages. Decorate your own birthday crown, collaborate on a dream cityscape inspired by Artists in Residence artist Ryder Henry, share a favorite Mattress Factory memory with p[ART]icipate: An Active Archive and make your own “I Have a Dream” magnet. DJ Pandemic Pete will be spinning a “global mix” of music, and birthday cake will be provided for all to enjoy. Though usually closed on Mondays, the museum’s galleries at 500 Sampsonia Way will be open for visitors. The Mattress Factory is located at 500 Sampsonia Way, Pittsburgh PA 15212. Parking is located at 505 Jacksonia Street. Museum hours are: Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-5pm, Sunday from 1-5pm. Closed Monday. General admission: $15. Full-time students with a valid ID and visitors ages 62+: $10. Children 6 and under and Mattress Factory members: FREE.
