National Aviary Teen Week

NEW for 2018, the National Aviary has enhanced its popular Teen Week summer camp. Teens ages 13-16 will enjoy more science-oriented bird studies at the National Aviary and venture into a bird hot spot in Western Pennsylvania with ornithologist Robert Mulvihill (materials and transportation included).

Augmenting camp favorites such as exploring falconry, preparing meals for the birds and performing a necropsy, teens will explore complex bird conservation issues and programs including the African Penguin artificial nest box program, the Andean Condor reintroduction program, and Bird Friendly® chocolate and coffee production in rain forests.

And through a new, exclusive opportunity, teens will travel off-site to locations where the National Aviary is studying bird communities living near streams and wetlands. Working alongside ornithologist Robert Mulvihill, they will participate in hands-on research to study what these birds can tell us about the conditions of Pittsburgh’s watersheds, and learn how and why scientists study wild birds in the field.
