Western Pa Mushroom Club events
The Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club announces the following mushroom walks and monthly meeting for June 2018: Bird Park BioBlitz: Saturday, June 2, 10:00 a.m. Bird Park, Mt. Lebanon. WPMC will lead a mushroom walk as part of the Mt. Lebanon Conservancy’s BioBlitz. Meet WPMC Mycologist Jim Tunney at the Bird Park Pavilion. Free.
BioBlitz Family Fun Festival: Sunday, June 10, 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. Schenley Park. WPMC will lead two afternoon mushroom walks, as part of this full-day event. Meet WPMC Mycologists and Identifiers at the Phipps Conservatory front lawn. Free.
MUSHROOM WALK: Saturday, June 16, 10:00 a.m. Camp Guyasuta, Sharpsburg. Meet WPMC Officer Barbara DeRiso at the second parking lot. Free. NOTE: FREEPORT ROAD BRIDGE IS CLOSED. FOLLOW POSTED DETOURS OR VISIT CAMPGUYASUTA.ORG FOR ALTERNATE ROUTES.
MONTHLY MEETING: Tuesday, June 19, 7:00 p.m. Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve, 614 Dorseyville Road. Speaker: Walt Sturgeon. Topic: Edible Wood-Rotters of Western Pennsylvania. The meeting is free and includes a mushroom display table staffed by expert identifiers.
MUSHROOM WALK: Saturday, June 23, 10:00 a.m. McConnells Mill State Park (Lawrence County). Meet WPMC Identifier Jerry Sapp at the Kildoo parking lot. The walk will start at the covered bridge. Free.
MUSHROOM WALK & PROGRAM: Saturday, June 23, 3:00-9:30 p.m. Blue Knob State Park (Bedford County). Meet WPMC Mycologists John and Kim Plischke at the Buck Hill Amphitheater. Mushroom walk at 3:00 p.m. followed by inoculation of logs at 4:30 p.m. and Mushroom slide show at 8:30 p.m. Free.
