WOMEN’S ASSAULT PREVENTION & RESPONSE SEMINAR Saturdays March 24 - April 28 from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Marshall Township Municipal Building It is important to know how to avoid or prevent assault, but it is just as crucial to know how to physically and psychologically respond if a confrontation is unavoidable. Terry Valentino has been teaching karate and jiu jitsu for 45 years and has been counseling adolescent victims of trauma and abuse for 34 years. During this 6-week seminar, he will teach important skills like situational awareness, managing fear and freezing, and defense against holding, choking, and striking. AYURVEDA COOKING WITH ANN Monday, March 26 at 7 p.m. Ayurveda cooking focuses on balancing what we eat to create a healthier you. Join our favorite Indian cook, Ann Manchella, as she talks about the ideas behind Ayurveda cooking and demonstrates the preparation of a tasty vegetarian dish from South India. This month, she will show us how to make rajma, curried kidney beans usually served with rice. Registration is required for this adult program. NORTH HILLS COLD WAR AIR DEFENSE Thursday, March 29 at 7 p.m. Did you know that Pittsburgh was home to several missile sites during the Cold War? Some of these sites were right here in the North Hills. Join Thomas Koedel as he briefly discusses the beginning of the Cold War and walks through the US preparations and national air defenses with special emphasis on the defenses of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County and the North Hills. As part of our 50th Anniversary Series, join us in looking back at the history in this area. Registration is required. STRESS MANAGEMENT TOOLBOX Thursday, April 5 at 7 p.m. Being healthy doesn't only mean being free of illness. It means feeling good both physically and mentally, and stress can be a major factor in not feeling healthy. Join Dr. Christina Tarantola as she talks about the causes of stress, how it affects your body, and shares some tips for reducing stress. Registration is required.
