The North Area Environmental Council (NAEC) announces its annual sale of perennials, shrubs, and trees. Orders must be placed by March 30. Pickup will be at the Latodami Nature Center Barn in North Park on April 22. This year’s species are: Arborvitae (Elegantissima), Azalea (Hardy Pink), Birch (Paper White), Daylily (Apricot Sparkles), Juniper (Greenmound), Eastern Larch, Striped Maple, White Oak, and Dwarf Alberta Spruce. The order form can be found at NAEC's web site Included also are detailed plant descriptions (including current size, growth rates, and mature size), soil preferences, and helpful landscape information. All plants are nursery-grown in Pennsylvania. Species are selected to create and improve wildlife habitat, as well as for their beauty and their ability to suit a variety of landscape sites and conditions. In the last six years alone, more than 15,000 plants have been sold, at exceptionally low prices, to North Hills residents. Every tree counts toward cleaner water and air, and healthier communities. The North Area Environmental Council is a 47-year old, all volunteer organization which promotes enhanced quality of life in our community through protection and improvement of a healthy, biologically diverse, local environment. In support of its mission, NAEC engages in ecological restoration projects, land conservation, education, advocacy, and scientific research.
