An Orchid Extravaganza
The Orchid Society of Western Pennsylvania (OSWP) will hold its annual Orchid Show on Saturday, March 18, 2017 10 AM to 5 PM and Sunday, March 19, 2017, 10 AM to 4 PM at the Phipps Garden Center, 1059 Shady Avenue (Fifth & Shady). The show is open to the public and admission is free, although we greatly appreciate voluntary donations.
An Orchid Extravaganza, this year’s theme, captures the amazing variety, beauty, and quantity of the orchids displayed in our show. Visitors to the show will be exhilarated as they view the varied exhibits displaying hundreds of blooming orchids at their finest. Society volunteers and expert orchid growers will stretch your knowledge by being on hand to answer questions.
One of the most popular features of our show is the Sales Area, where you may purchase orchids from vendors brought in from all over the eastern United States. The selection offered is vast. Many are perfect for the casual grower, but there is also a large selection of the rare and/or unusual. The show also includes free educational seminars ranging from beginner to specialty topics, and plant raffles.
We will again feature the Repotting Table. This is a popular feature we started last year where you can watch and learn as your orchid plant is being repotted. Cost is $5 per orchid including bark and 6 inch or under plastic pot. Our members staffing that table can also provide, at no charge, some recovery suggestions if you bring in an orchid plant that is not doing so well.
Photographer’s Opportunity Sunday 9 a.m-10 a.m. before show opens to public.so that there will be clear access to the exhibits.
The Orchid Show is part of OSWP’s educational mission and is always well attended.
