Benefits & Fundraisers

NHCO Collecting for Back-to-School
Through July 31. North Hills Community Outreach is collecting new backpacks and school supplies for students in kindergarten through grade 12. Items needed include backpacks, notebooks, binders, paper, folders, pencils, pens and calculators. Good quality teen backpacks with sturdy zippers are especially needed. Gently used Texas Instrument graphic/scientific calculators are also needed. Donations can be dropped off Monday through Friday, 9am-4 pm at any NHCO office including NHCO Allison Park, 1975 Ferguson Road, Hampton, or NHCO North Boroughs, AGH-Suburban Campus, 100 S. Jackson Avenue, 2 South, Bellevue. Special donation hours will be held 9am-noon, Saturday, July 29 in the food pantry behind the main office in Hampton, or alternate arrangements can be made by calling 412-487-6316 option 1.

5th Annual Lemonade Stand
Sat., July 15, Woodland Farms, Pinkerton Rd., Wexford. Fresh squeezed lemonade and a free baked good with every donation. Proceeds benefit the national children’s charity Alex’s Lemonade Stand.

CFF Got Talent Challenge
Thurs., July 20, 6-10pm. North Hills High School cafeteria, 53 Rochester Rd., 15229. Donate to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in two ways: either by performing a talent on social media (#CFFgottalent) by July 20 or by showcasing your talent at the event. Tickets to the talent show are $5; all proceeds benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. You can also donate at https://pgh50finest.finestcff.org/frankpolito.

Books are Fun Summer Social
Tues., Aug. 1, 10am-3pm. UPMC Passavant, 9100 Babcock Blvd., 15237. Meet the UPMC Auxiliary and dedicated people who support community hospitals at the Books Are Fun event. Enjoy refreshments and great books at amazing prices. Proceeds benefit the Passavant Hospital Foundation.

Vacation Bible School 
Mon.-Fri., July 10-14, 6-8:30pm. North Hills Community Baptist Church, 7801 Thompson Run Rd., 15237. Learn about God through the Bible, drama, music, games, crafts and more. For children age 4 to those entering seventh grade. No charge to attend.

Wexford Garden and Pond Tour
Sat., July 15, 10am-3pm. Whole Foods, 10576 Perry Hwy., Wexford. Pick up a map at Whole Foods for this self-guided tour of veggie gardens, fairy houses, waterfalls with ponds and other gardens in the Wexford area. (Rain date July 16). Tickets $35 per person. www.WexfordPondTour.com

Pine Twp. Community Days
Sat., July 15, 4pm-dusk. Pine Community Park, 100 Pine Park Dr., Wexford. Enjoy a petting zoo, children’s activities, bounce houses, food, ice creation performances, pie and watermelon eating contests, train rides, concert and fireworks. 

Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social
Sun., July 16, 1-4pm. Depreciation Lands Museum, 4743 S. Pioneer Rd., Allison Park. Complimentary ice cream and lemonade with admission. Take a trip to Colonial times with special demonstrations, lots of hands-on activities and a concert. $5 adults, $3 children. www.depreciationlandsmuseum.org.

Ask the Attorney sessions for low-income families
Wed., July 19 NHCO Millvale. Wednesday, Aug. 16, NHCO North Boroughs. 7pm. Free legal consultation for noncriminal matters such as divorce, bankruptcy, credit issues, family matters, rent disputes and more is available for families in need at North Hills Community Outreach locations the third Wednesday of each month. St. Nicholas Church Flea Market

Let’s Cook Workshops in Millvale
Sat., July 22, Aug. 19, and third Saturdays of the month through November, 10:30-noon. Christ Lutheran Church, 917 Evergreen Road, Millvale. North Hills Community Outreach, in partnership with Christ Lutheran Church of Millvale, is offering free Let's Cook workshops for those interested in learning tips and techniques for eating healthy on a budget. Topics include soups, roasting vegetables, freezing and storing, stir-frying, oven-frying, microwaving, fermenting, smoothies, and herbs and spices.  Registration appreciated, but a limited number of walk-ins are welcome. Basic Survival Skills
Sun., July 23, 2pm. North Park Iowa Shelter, N. Ridge Dr., Allison Park. Learn about basic survival skills in the forest from county park rangers. Information includes how to start an emergency fire, methods of water filtration and what to do if you become lost. Fee $7. CCAC North Offers New Data Analytics Program

Think Caregiver
Free phone and online support for anyone providing unpaid care to dependent children, spouses, parents, sibling, relatives, friends or neighbors. Part of the Hope Grows nonprofit organization.
