The Mars News Years Festival, held on May 4-6, had one thing in common with the fourth planet from the sun—the weather was pretty inhospitable. Still, that didn’t stop people from coming out to this otherworldly celebration of the planet’s rotation around the sun, which takes 687 days to complete.

Families enjoyed presentations by NASA (the National Aeronautical Space Agency) scientists and engineers that focused on the theme of Exploration, Innovation, Celebration, and learning more about the Red Planet in the Pitt Mobile Science Lab. And kids enjoyed playing with robots as well as other activities that focused on the importance of STEAM—science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics—not to mention posing in spacesuits.
