Friends of Pine Community Park Golf Classic
Mon., July 25, 10am. Wildwood Golf Club, 2195 Sample Rd., Allison Park. 17th annual event is a four-person Callaway shamble event with team and skill prizes and silent auction. Breakfast, snacks and dinner included in $250 per person price. Proceeds provide funding for the Community Center and projects in Pine Park. Golf Tournament Benefits Ministries of Sisters of St. Francis

Annual Bethany Golf Classic

Great Local Gardens Contest
Mon, July 11, deadline to register. Shaler Garden Club and Shaler Library invite those with green thumbs to share their gardens with the community. All types of gardens welcomed; judges look at variety, use of space, use of material and color. Prizes awarded to top five gardens. Open Your Heart to a Senior Needs Volunteers :

United Way’s Open Your Heart to a Senior initiative needs volunteers to help seniors remain independent and stay safe in their homes. Volunteers can deliver meals, provide transportation, help at senior centers and more. Call United Way helpline at 2-1-1 or www.oyhs.org.

Ursuline’s Cart to Heart Program assists those who have difficulty grocery shopping independently by matching them with a volunteer shopper who shops for them once or twice a month using pre-provided gift cards. Volunteers assist in putting away groceries and conduct a brief, friendly visit. Contact Karen Tobin, 412-224-4700, ext. 113.

Ursuline Services’ Checks and Balances program assists those who have difficulty with financial affairs by matching them with trained volunteers who help them prepare bills for payment, assist with check writing and balance checkbooks. Contact Karen Tobin, 412-224-4700, ext. 113.

Neighborly Gnomes provides assistance with outdoor tasks such as gardening, raking leaves, trimming hedges and taking out the trash. Services are offered to any senior or adult with a physical disability living in Allegheny County. For more information and to volunteer, visit

Free Rides for Seniors Shuttle in Rt. 28 Corridor
The shuttle transports seniors in the communities along the Route 28 corridor to shopping and UPMC appointments on specific days for each community at no charge, Monday-Friday. Communities served by a second shuttle include Brackenridge, Cheswick, Etna, Millvale, Oakmont, Natrona Heights, Springdale, Tarentum and Verona. 412-449-0151.

Mon., 6-7pm.  4th Monday of every month at Center of Bellevue. A group for single moms in the Bellevue area facilitated by counselors from Anchorpoint. Free community meal and children will receive homework help while mom attends this educational group. Free but registration required.

Sanctuary for Teens
Tues., 4-5:30pm. An eight-week support group for teens grappling with depression, anxiety or feeling alone. Scholarships available.

Grief Support Group

Self-Care for Women
Mon. 6-8pm. An eight-week support and educational group for women struggling with stress or depression and its effects in their lives. Scholarships available.

Life After Divorce
Tues., 6-7:30pm. A 10-week educational group for people trying to make sense of life after divorce and learning to cope with the experience. Scholarships available.
