Warm Up Your Winter with these Cold Weather Cocktails

City Tavern Warmer

Winter may be on its way out, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy some cold weather cocktails in the meantime. From caramel hot buttered spiced rum to a chocolate-covered raspberry treat, you might as well make the most of the season before springtime arrives!

Caramel Hot Buttered Spiced Rum

Caramel Hot Buttered Spiced Rum

½ c of apple cider
1½ oz Admiral
½ Tbsp caramel sauce
1 Tbsp butter
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1 pinch of salt
1 cinnamon stick

Combine all ingredients, except cinnamon stick, in a saucepan and bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally. Pour into heat-safe mugs and garnish with a cinnamon stick.

City Tavern Warmer

½ cup peach brandy
¼ cup high-quality dark rum
2 T. whiskey
4 cups apple cider

In a medium saucepan, combine ingredients and simmer over medium heat until warm; do not boil. Serve in mugs or cups. From The City Tavern Cookbook: Recipes from the Birthplace of American Cuisine by Walter Staib.

Vanilla Cake Hot Chocolate

1 c whole milk
1 tsp brown sugar
1 cinnamon stick
1 oz good quality dark chocolate, chopped
1½ oz Stolichnaya Vanil Vodka
½ c whipped cream
cocoa powder

Heat first three ingredients in a saucepan until nearly boiling then remove from heat. Add chocolate and whisk until smooth. Then add vanilla vodka and top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cocoa powder.

Chocolate Covered Raspberry

1½ oz Svedka Raspberry Vodka
8 oz hot chocolate
whipped cream
fresh raspberries
chocolate shavings

Combine the first two ingredients in a heat-safe mug. Garnish with whipped cream, raspberries and chocolate shavings.

Espresso de San Juan


Espresso de San Juan

1½ oz. Bacardí Superior Rum
1 oz. dark chocolate
1 oz. strong espresso coffee
¾ oz. fine white sugar
pinch of chili flakes

Bring all ingredients to a gentle boil in a saucepan, stirring gently. Let it to cool for a few minutes before pouring it into a mug. Garnish with chocolate shavings and additional chili flakes.
