UPMC Oakland Campus Hospitals

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s (UPMC) Oakland Campus hospitals consist of UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Montefiore, and UPMC Shadyside hospitals, the Eye and Ear Institute, and Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic.

UPMC Presbyterian is the region’s largest adult medical and surgical referral hospital, offering state-of-the-art medical/surgical care to patients in the tri-state area as well as to patients who travel from around the world. In conjunction with the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, UPMC Presbyterian is the site of numerous top-notch graduate education programs and ongoing research in all fields of medicine. UPMC Presbyterian also earned a position on the U.S. News and World Report “Honor Roll” as one of the top hospitals in the United States.

The hospital is a Level 1 Regional Resource Trauma Center, and is the busiest in Pennsylvania according to the hospital. It is a renowned center for organ transplantation, cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, critical care medicine, trauma surgery, neurosurgery and specialized orthopaedic surgery.

UPMC Montefiore, houses medical and surgical inpatient units and is home to the Thomas E. Starzl Transplant Institute, general internal medicine offices, the division of pulmonary, allergy and critical care medicine, the Comprehensive Lung Center, the Benedum Geriatric Center and the Facial Nerve Center.

UPMC Shadyside is a tertiary care hospital providing primary medical care; physician and nursing education; and a broad range of specialties that include cardiology, oncology, adult orthopaedic joint reconstruction and musculoskeletal oncology, geriatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, vascular medicine, endocrinology and more.

The Hillman Cancer Center, housed at UPMC Shadyside, is the flagship treatment and research facility of the UPMC Cancer Centers network and the internationally recognized research teams provide specialized diagnosis, treatment, prevention and care for patients and their families.

The ten-story Eye and Ear Institute houses the departments of ophthalmology and otolaryngology of both the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and UPMC and is regularly ranked among the top 10 in the nation.

Clinical services include the UPMC Eye Center; UPMC Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists; University of Pittsburgh Voice Center; UPMC Allergy Center; UPMC Swallowing Center; UPMC Center for Audiology and Hearing Aid Services; and UPMC Center for Balance Disorders.

Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic (WPIC) houses the department of psychiatry of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and is the flagship of UPMC Behavioral Health, the psychiatric specialty division of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Named one of the 10 best psychiatric hospitals in the country by U.S. News and World Report, WPIC has more than 40 outpatient programs and 289 licensed inpatient beds, serving individuals across the lifespan, from young children to aging adults.

WPIC currently houses six federally funded Centers for Excellence: the Mental Health Intervention Center for Mood and Anxiety Disorders, the Conte Center for the Neuroscience of Mental Disorders, the Advanced Center for Intervention and Services Research for Late Life Mood Disorders, the Pittsburgh Mind/Body Center, the Affect Regulation and Adolescent Brain Center and the Advanced Center for Intervention and Services Research for Early Onset Mood and Anxiety Disorders.
