Magee-Womens
Hospital of University of Pittsburgh Medical Center is a full-service
women's hospital and is one of only five not-for-profit hospitals in
the United States dedicated to the care of women throughout all stages
of life.
Magee serves as the teaching facility for obstetrics, gynecology,
gynecologic oncology, and neonatology for the University of
Pittsburgh. Members of the medical staff hold academic appointments at
the university and are actively involved in education and research as
well as patient care. The hospital’s dedication to women has not gone
unnoticed. Magee is recognized as a National Center of Excellence in
Women’s Health.
Magee-Womens Hospital is also one of the original recipients of the
Department of Health and Human Services award as a National Center of
Excellence in Women’s Health. This recognizes Magee's achievements as
an innovative leader in the delivery of women’s health care and in
research leading to improvements in women’s health.
More than 8,000 babies are born at Magee-Womens Hospital each year,
accounting for 45 percent of all births to women who live in Allegheny
County. Magee is also the regional referral center for high-risk
maternal care, and the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit is the
largest in Pa., treating more than 1,000 seriously or critically ill
newborns annually.
Magee has nationally recognized clinical programs in gastroenterology,
bariatrics and weight management, plastic surgery, obstetrics and
gynecology, neonatology, fetal surgery and fetal medicine, breast
cancer, gynecologic cancers, cardiology and lupus. The hospital also
